TUBACHRISTMAS Madison
This Saturday Madison once again joins the hundreds of TUBACHRISTMAS concerts held throughout the world. This hour long holiday tribute held in the State Capitol is played by a band comprised entirely of tuba and euphonium players from around the state of Wisconsin.
The first TUBACHRISTMAS was held in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, December 22nd, 1974. Traditional Christmas music performed at the first TUBACHRISTMAS was arranged by Alec Wilder who composed many solo and ensemble compositions for tuba and euphonium. He was a loyal supporter of every effort to improve the literature and public image of the Tuba and Euphonium. In other words, TUBACHRISTMAS is a place for tuba and euphonium musicians to show their “tuba pride”.
The members of the band meet for one hour ahead of time to assemble and practice holiday favorites before the concert. All ages and skill levels are welcome. If you are a tuba or euphonium player and are interested in participating, visit the TUBACHRISTMAS website for more information. Essentially, bring your horn, show up, and get ready to play!
TUBACHRISTMAS is this Saturday, December 11th at 2:30pm in the rotunda of the Wisconsin State Capitol Building. The event is FREE and open to the public. Come and go as you please!
It is a great family event, and a chance to spend a little time enjoying the beauty of our State Capitol Building all dressed up for the holidays. The bass sound of the tuba and euphoniums echos beautifully off the rotunda and will get you in the holiday spirit in no time!
